The Nasdaq-listed cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase is actively building a cryptocurrency hub in India. The company says it has “ambitious plans” for the South Asian crypto hub and is looking for many jobs, including hundreds of engineers.

Coinbase has “ambitious plans” for its Indian crypto hub

Coinbase published a blog post on Friday by Pankaj Gupta, the company’s VP of Engineering and Site Lead in India. Gupta came to Coinbase about two months ago “to build and run a new tech hub for Coinbase in India,” he explained, explaining:

There has never been a more exciting time for home builders working in crypto. This is true worldwide, but especially in India, which is experiencing a boom in crypto-native talent and the creation and growth of major crypto projects.

“Our tech hub in India is still in its infancy, but has already started with an incredibly high level of interest in our vacancies from all over India,” emphasized Gupta. He added that Coinbase “is also investigating startup acquisitions and acquisitions.”

The Nasdaq-listed crypto exchange is currently hiring senior and junior roles “in product management, user experience, design and program management”. Gupta noted that the company is also “building a core support team – in areas such as HR and recruiting – to fully support our hub in India.”

The VP of Engineering also announced:

We have ambitious plans for this hub in the near future – we aim to hire hundreds of world-class engineers in the near future.

“As a product-driven company, it is important that our new employees in India really understand the products and services they are helping to deliver,” he said. “That is why we are introducing a new program called CIkka – short for ‘Coinbase India Sikka’ – which initially offers every new employee in India a one-off $ 1,000 in crypto currencies.”

Coinbase officially announced its expansion into India in March. The exchange recently unveiled its plan to open an Apple-like app store.
