Retirees Pay Scottish Roofing Company in Cryptocurrency – Bitcoin News

As Bitcoin grew in popularity, more and more companies in Scotland have adopted cryptocurrency payments. A roofing company from Glasgow is now saying that more and more of their customers, including retirees, are willing to pay with crypto.

ASAP Roofing accepts cryptocurrency for its services

Kaeleb Mckay, who runs a roofing company with his father Cameron, recently told the UK press that his business is seeing an increasing number of customers paying in cryptocurrency. The 20-year-old Scot also said he was surprised at the people using cryptocurrencies, with his company’s crypto customer base even including retirees.

Retirees pay Scottish Roofing Company in cryptocurrency

ASAP Roofing and Building Ltd started accepting cryptocurrencies last year as reported by the Daily Record and is now taking several large coins including Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Ethereum (ETH), Dogecoin (DOGE), Litecoin (LTC), and XRP, according to its website. The young entrepreneur from Wishaw, Lanarkshire commented:

We have been accepting crypto for a while. It’s ideal for a company because it’s paid instantly.

Kaelebs Company is a family owned roofing and construction company based in Glasgow, Scotland’s most populous city. It operates across central Scotland and the north of England, specializing in maintenance and repairs for commercial and traditional buildings.

Crypto companies are increasingly targeting “gray pounds”

The owner of ASAP Roofing admitted that he has been in the crypto space for years. “I’ve had a personal interest in trading cryptocurrencies since 2014,” said Kaeleb Mckay, adding that he was “surprised by some of the people who want to pay this way.” He told the publication:

I did a roof repair for about £ 500 for a retired woman in her late 60s in Glasgow in November and she said she wanted to pay in bitcoin.

This is not an isolated incident as Mckay’s company, which is bidding as Scotland’s premier roofing company, has had other older Brits who wanted to use cryptocurrency as well. “I have another guy who has paid £ 180 in Ethereum for an emergency roof repair in the past few weeks,” he shared.

Often referred to as the “gray pound,” retirees’ money has been increasingly targeted by crypto companies, the Daily Record notes. In March, the UK Advertising Standards Authority banned an “irresponsible” ad on the Coinfloor crypto exchange targeting retirees investing in Bitcoin.

Most of the Scottish companies that accept cryptocurrency payments are large technology companies. However, many small businesses like ASAP Roofing have also used decentralized digital money as a substitute for fiat cash.
