Republican campaign arm accepts crypto assets
The Republican campaign arm announced on Thursday that it would accept cryptocurrencies through payment processor Bitpay. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is a lobbying organization that aims to support the election of Republicans to Congress through direct financial contributions to the candidates and the Republican Party.
NRCC accepts crypto donations, but funds are converted to US dollars and deposited
Republican bureaucrats are ready to accept donations in digital assets to boost their political elections. On June 17, the NRCC announced that it would be accepting financial contributions in the form of cryptocurrencies, but the funds will be converted into US dollars immediately before the money goes into the NRCC’s treasury.
Bitpay will make the process easier, according to the announcement, and while the group will not officially receive the crypto assets it is holding, the NRCC believes it will make the payment process smoother.
Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), A representative who has spoken about the crypto economy on a number of occasions, said the move will help Republicans halt the agenda of Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi.
“We are focused on pursuing every possible path to pursue our mission of stopping Nancy Pelosi’s socialist agenda and retaking the majority of the House of Representatives, and this cutting-edge technology will help provide Republicans with the resources to that we need for success, ”said NRCC Chairman Emmer during the crypto acceptance announcement.
The NRCC will be the first party committee to accept crypto donations through Bitpay, but there are a number of Republican and Democratic bureaucrats who accept digital assets for campaign donations.
The NRCC was founded in 1866 when Republicans wanted to increase the party’s visibility in federal elections. In addition to funding Republican campaigns, the organization also funds voter registration, educational and voter participation programs, and technical and academic support.
According to the Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) in May, the group has concerns about the anonymity of digital assets. FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub told the Daily Beast that crypto assets are similar to cash in this regard.
“The goal of the campaign finance system is to enable the public (and the FEC) to follow the money that flows through our political system,” said Weintraub. “Checks and credit card transactions provide solid accountability. From the start, Congress frowned on cash because it is essentially undetectable and very easy to transfer. “
