Mysterious John McAfee website appears for two days – Whackd token rises by over 700% – News Bitcoin News
After the death of former antivirus tycoon John McAfee, the valuation of an ERC20 token called whackd (WHACKD) has risen significantly. Three days ago, the Ethereum-based coin was traded for less than a US penny, but then the token soared 733%, hitting over $ 0.07 per unit. In addition, four days ago a mysterious website with the Whackd token appeared on the Internet, which alluded to McAfee’s alleged “emergency plan” with a countdown timer.
Mysterious McAfee Contingency Plan website pops up on the web directing people to the whackd token contract
John McAfee’s reported suicide has sparked many interesting theories and stories in the past few days. McAfee was found dead on June 23, 2021, and the Catalan Justice Ministry in Spain told the press that “everything pointed to suicide”. However, McAfee’s widow Janice and John’s close associates have told the media that McAfee, 75, was not suicidal.
In addition, interesting theories and stories are popping up on the internet as some people have speculated on a dead man’s switch theory. Additionally, reports have also linked McAfee with a secret Bitcoin mining farm known as the Spanish “ghost hotel”. After McAfee’s death and the riot of wild theories, a website briefly popped up on the Internet.
The website was called britbonglogpost.com and people had managed to archive the page before it disappeared. Currently the domain is throwing a server error to a user, but a look at the archived page on archive.org shows a pop art drawing by John McAfee and a countdown timer. The text on the side says, “Emergency plan activated. Something big is coming. “The text is above the timer, which has counted down about 28 days to reveal something.
Under the timer there is an Etherscan address for the token contract whackd (WHACKD) McAfee announced on November 11, 2019. The token is an ERC20 coin that was introduced for trading on the McAfee Dex platform. Etherscan shows that there is currently a maximum supply of 790,184,970 Whackd among 30,587 Whackd holders. Under britbonglogpost.com’s Etherscan URL highlighted in neon green, the website also says:
All the right people are scared. They should.
Whackd Token is soaring more than 700% this week, Phony Whackd ERC20 tokens are released
McAfee has told the crypto community about the Whackd token on several occasions. When McAfee revealed the wacky ERC20, the ad featured a picture of Hillary Clinton. Whackd is meant to be deflationary and burn tokens when transactions are issued. “10% of all transactions are burned (WHACKD!) + 1 in 1000 transactions are burned (WHACKD!)”, It says in the display of the coin.
The joke behind the Whackd token is related to the sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his alleged suicide. After the launch of whackd, McAfee unveiled an “Epstein Didn’t Kill Herself” contest, and he said the contest winners would receive 10% of the coin offer at that point. Then, a few weeks later, on December 1, 2019, McAfee announced that he had the text “$ WHACKD” tattooed on his arm.
The Whackd token didn’t really get a lot of attention in 2019 and the following year. WHACKD’s price traded for less than a dime on June 24, 2021, but the following day McAfee’s coin rose 733% to hit an all-time high (ATH) of $ 0.075 per unit. Since the ATH, the coin has lost more than 46% in value and is currently changing hands for $ 0.04 per unit. In the past 24 hours, the Whackd token on Uniswap has achieved a global trading volume of $ 2.4 million.
Unfortunately, in addition to the legitimate Whackd token (WHACKD) introduced by McAfee, a number of fraud tokens from Ethereum and the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) have appeared on Uniswap, Pancakeswap and advertised in forums. Originally, the real Whackd token was only available through the McAfee Dex platform. However, at the time of writing, the McAfee Dex web portal is not working and is leaving redirect links to other McAfee web-related domains.
Anyone trading the Whackd token should be very careful and double-check the legitimate contract address. Traders need to understand that there are many copycat ERC20s with the same “whackd” token name that are used to scam people. While investigating this issue, Bitcoin.com News came across three fake Whackd tokens issued on ETH and BSC and four scam reports posted by Anons on Reddit.
