On Thursday, McLaren Racing announced that the British motorsport team has selected Tezos as the organization’s official partner for the Indycar series, Formula 1 and esports. Tezo will create a non-fungible token (NFT) platform for McLaren Racing to showcase the motorsport group’s world-class drivers and “illustrious racing heritage”.

McLaren and Tezos work together to build an NFT platform

The non-fungible token (NFT) economy has exploded, and world-renowned automakers and motorsport teams are jumping in on the action. This week, the German automaker Porsche announced that it was launching NFT card assets called “Fanzone”. McLaren Racing has now announced that it will enter into a multi-year technical partnership with Tezos that will also focus on the NFT area.

Based at the McLaren Technology Center in Woking, Surrey, England, the racing team stated that Tezos and McLaren will transform the NFT industry. “Tezos and McLaren Racing combine to create a unique fan-centric NFT platform, an innovative step in an exciting and rapidly evolving industry,” said Lindsey Eckhouse, director of licensing, e-commerce and esports for McLaren Racing.

McLaren Racing Limited is the second oldest active team according to Wikipedia and the second most successful Formula 1 team after Ferrari.

Tezos will also be supporting McLaren Racing presentations as a partner of the McLaren Shadow eSports team. The partnership will enable the Tezos brand to be featured in the Arrow McLaren SP and McLaren Formula 1 teams.

“At McLaren we’re known for putting the fans at the center of everything we do, and this is yet another partnership that allows us to enter a space where fans can own key pieces from our team,” added Eckhouse.

This isn’t Tezos’ first fight with Formula 1 as the Red Bull Racing Honda team of F1 closed an NFT deal with Tezos last month. The partnership announcement said Tezos will help Red Bull Racing produce non-fungible tokens.

“McLaren Racing has one of the longest and most famous legacies in racing and we are delighted that they have decided to bring it to the Tezos blockchain through their NFT fan engagement platform,” said Hubertus Thonhauser, chairman of Tezos Foundation, on Thursday.
