Craig Wright wins default judgment against Cobra – Bitcoin.org forced to remove whitepaper – Bitcoin News

The self-proclaimed inventor of Bitcoin, Craig Wright, has won a default judgment in the London High Court in his copyright infringement proceedings against the pseudonymous operator of bitcoin.org. According to a report, the website and its owner Cobra will have to remove the Bitcoin whitepaper from the web portal and also pay $ 48,000 in legal fees.

The self-proclaimed ‘Satoshi’ wins the default judgment against Cobra and Bitcoin.org

Craig Wright hit the headlines again after the self-proclaimed Satoshi Nakamoto won a default judgment against the pseudonym Cobra in the UK. Bitcoin.com News reported on Wright’s crackdown on bitcoin.org and Cobra in late January. In fact, however, the proceedings began on February 24th via the Intellectual Property List of the Business and Property Courts of England and Wales.

The lawsuits caused much controversy among Bitcoiners as Wright has yet to prove that he invented Bitcoin for the larger crypto community. In fact, there is so much evidence contradicting Craig Wright’s story that it is said that he just lives on attention.

“He had four years to show that he is Satoshi, and I’m not satisfied,” said blockchain and software developer Jameson Lopp in 2019.

Following the initial filing of copyright infringement proceedings against bitcoin.org and the website’s operator, Cobra, the UK’s Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) filed a civil lawsuit against Wright’s claims on the famous white paper.

“Today COPA filed a lawsuit in the UK High Court to explain that Mr. Craig Wright has no copyright in the Bitcoin whitepaper,” the working group said at the time. Following the COPA court filing, a representative for Craig Wright, chief scientist at Nchain, wrote to Bitcoin.com News saying:

This is exactly what we have wanted to achieve for some time, and I am delighted that this body has agreed to stand for candidacy in court, as I can now have my references judged by a court.

Updated on June 28, and also the following day, a blog post published by ontier.digital stated that Wright won a default judgment of the London High Court against Cobra. The Chancery Division High Court judge granted Wright’s motion, which included:

  • “An injunction prohibiting the defendant from infringing the copyright of Dr. Wright in the UK, whether by making the White Paper available for download from the bitcoin.org website or otherwise. “
  • “An order requiring the defendant to post a copy of the court order on the bitcoin.org website for 6 months.”

The announcement from the ontier.digital website states that Cobra preferred to “maintain their anonymity”. On Twitter, the pseudonymous operator of bitcoin.org spoke of the verdict and said it was the perfect example of why uncensored and permissionless networks like Bitcoin are needed.

“All of your fiat-based assets are ultimately backed up by the same legal system that made it illegal for me to host the Bitcoin whitepaper today because a notorious liar swore in front of a judge that he was Satoshi,” Cobra said tweeted. “A system where ‘justice’ depends on who has the bigger wallet.” The anonymous Bitcoiner added:

I don’t think you could get a better advertisement for * why * Bitcoin is necessary than what happened today. Rules enforced by cryptography are far superior to rules based on who can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars in court.
