Africrypt directors deny allegations they molested customers as doubts about the true value of missing bitcoins mount – News Bitcoin News

According to new reports, Raees and Ameer Cajee, the two young directors of the recently collapsed crypto-investment firm Africrypt, have “categorically denied” allegations that they had fleeced customers. Instead, the brothers insist that their company is the victim of a hack, while claiming that the media may be overestimating the value of the missing bitcoins. These new denials from Africrypt directors come as doubts about the actual number of bitcoins stolen continue to grow.

Africrypt directors have little life experience

In response to a request from the BBC, John Oosthuizen, Cajees’ attorney suggested that the allegations against his clients were unfounded and “well-founded”. When asked if his customers had made a police report after the hacking incident, Oosthuizen said “no”.

Nevertheless, the lawyer points out that his clients, who are presumed to be between the ages of 18 and 20, have “very little life experience”. When they started receiving death threats, their “first reaction was to protect themselves and their families”.

Cajee Brothers ready to cooperate

Oosthuizen did not disclose the whereabouts of the Cajees, but said its clients would “cooperate in any future investigations by the authorities.” However, the Cajees would not do this until they were informed of an investigation, the lawyer said.

Meanwhile, doubts about the exact value of the stolen bitcoins grew after an anonymous Africrypt investor told the BBC that while the losses suffered were substantial, “they were much less than the billions reported”.

In fact, a January 2021 archive on Africrypt’s website suggests the investment firm was under $ 100 million under management. That number is well below the reported missing $ 3.6 billion worth of Bitcoins, suggesting that the original numbers were inflated.
